Types of Contact Lenses

ContactsDirect carries the following types of prescription contact lenses:

• Single-vision – Perhaps the most common type, single-vision contacts have a single prescription in each lens to correct refractive errors like nearsightedness (myopia) and farsightedness (hyperopia).
• Bifocal and multifocal – Bifocal contact lenses have two prescriptions in each lens: one for distance vision and another for reading. Multifocal contacts are like progressive lenses in glasses. They have a gradient of different prescription powers so it’s easier to focus on things at near, intermediate, and faraway distances.
• Monovision – With monovision contact lenses, one contact has a prescription to help you see better up close. The other contact has a different strength to help you see distant objects more clearly.
• Toric – Astigmatism causes blurry vision up close and far away. If a person’s astigmatism is severe enough, they may need to use special contact lenses called toric contacts. To correct astigmatism, toric contact lenses have a different prescription in one meridian than the other. They’re also designed so that they don’t rotate in the eye.
• Colored contact lenses – These lenses can intensify your natural eye color or change it completely. While all colored contact lenses require a prescription, most are available with or without vision correction.
